I can't say this book was 'Oh, Wow Awesome' for me, but I did enjoy listening to it. But that's really neither here nor there since this is an entirely different series and shouldn't be compared to Percy just because it's the same author. Let's just get this out of the way now: I still love the Percy Jackson series more. The way Sadie and Carter have to learn magic and the fact that their family is a strong old powerful family was great. I liked the crush that Carter had, though it didn't exactly turn out like I'd expected. The siblings don't just stay in one place but travel everywhere. The author did a great job with all of the characters and settings. Carter and Sadie couldn't be more different but it was their differences that made them so perfect for the story. The two narrators did a great job with the voices and I got completely into the book. I have to say, I think the cat is my favorite character. Now to save their father, they have to battle with magic and save the world! They learned that magic is real, their father was a magician and the 'gods' they learned about are real. On one of the rare occasions they do see each other, they find out a LOT more about their family than they ever thought existed. Carter and Sadie are siblings that look nothing alike and rarely spend any time even on the same continent. Listeners will be enthralled.I absolutely loved this audiobook! I got it for my kids to listen to and I think I liked it more than they did. The story is told alternately by the siblings, offering two interpretations of the action. Kellgren perfectly voices Sadie's impatience and arrogance, while Free makes Carter sound more cautious and cerebral. Free and Katherine Kellgren capture the different natures of the siblings and the personalities of the gods. In their effort to save the world and their father, they are assisted by many Egyptian gods. The siblings discover that their deliberate separation was caused by a fear about their combined magical powers and that they carry the blood of the pharaohs in their veins. A fiery explosion causes their father to disappear, the kidnapping of the children, the apparent destruction of the Rosetta Stone, and the release of a group of gods intent on destroying the world. After six years, they are reunited when their father brings them to the British Museum. Since their mother's death, Sadie has lived in England with her grandparents and Carter has been with his father, an Egyptologist who roams the world.
